We’re switching things up mid-series and bringing you a special collaboration with NHS Healthcare Scientists. Our summer intern, Kiran, introduces this mini-series focussed on the healthcare sciences, aka the scientific backbone of the NHS.

There is a national skills shortage of healthcare scientists, which is expected to significantly increase over the next 5 years. STEM leaning students are over-proportionally led to medicine BUT only 1 in 4 applicants secure a uni place, meaning 3 in 4 applicants who have a passion to help make our society more healthy are an untapped national resource.

In this series, Kiran interviews Biomedical Scientists, Medical Physicists, Bioinformaticians, Audiologists and other Healthcare Scientists to share a glimpse into what it’s like to work in healthcare as a scientist, engineer or mathematician rather than as a doctor or nurse. This podcast mini series is designed to showcase the diversity of roles in healthcare sciences, where people can make a real difference in wider medical applications.
